Projects and Accomplishments of Timothy C. Belt

8/96 – Present Carnival Cruise Lines, Inc., Miami, FL
Cruise Line Operator

I am currently based onboard a cruise ship where I am responsible for total computer operations support.  On my current ship I was involved in the setup and testing of the networked servers and pc's.

There are 90 PC's running Windows95, WindowsNT, Microsoft Exchange email, MS Office applications and some earlier versions of Lotus and WordPerfect.   Three Compaq servers are each running Windows NT 4.0 with tcp/ip installed.

A SUN UNIX server is running the Oracle database where we have in-house written applications that are accessed via tcp/ip sessions on the pc's and via 30 Wyse terminals.

We also have a Micros POS system running 50 cash registers tied to SCO UNIX based Micros servers.

I also wrote a intranet web site for internal systems support.   This runs on Microsoft Internet Information Server on the NT server.

11/91 – 8/96 Camino Real Foods, Inc., Nissin Foods (USA), Gardena, CA
Food Manufacturer

As the IS Manager I took company through the successful selection and installation of new manufacturing and accounting package and supporting HP UNIX hardware. I interviewed and hired a group of consultants to help us define our requirements and write an RFP.  After submitting the RFP to 25 software companies the field was narrowed down to 3 vendors who came in for demos.  Along with the other functional managers we chose SSA’s BPCS package running on an HP UNIX and an Informix database.    I negotiated with the hardware and software vendors on contract conditions and terms.  I had one direct report who provided additional computer support.

I selected, installed and supported a Novell 3.12 server with 30 pc's attached.  I later upgraded the server from Novell 3.12 to the 4.1 version.   We used a Citrix communications server to provide dial up capability for our remote site.

I wrote a FoxPro (DOS) application that tracked sales of each item in the product line.  This was an invaluable tool for the sales team as they could look up the sales of any item, brand, broker and market in any combination.

I wrote a intranet web site for internal systems support.  This was a file based system not running on an internet server.

I started with this firm as a Marketing Analyst.  In this capacity I analyzed our internal sales data.  We subscribed to external store scanner data  (Information Resources and Nielsen) and I analyzed and reported on this data and made recommendations to our sales team.

I created sales presentations for the sales team to give to our broker network and worked with marketing communication companies to help design our sales brochures.

I interviewed market research companies for a project that never got funded.  I worked with design companies to redo the look of our packaging.  I also interfaced heavily with our R&D department to create new products and reformulate our old ones to reduce cost.

8/90 – 11/91 Super Marketing, Inc., Irvine, CA
Promotional Marketing Firm

I installed and supported a PC LAN of 50+ computers using Lantastic and provided computer support to the users.  I also taught QuatroPro and WordPerfect classes to beginning users.

I was responsible for a Paradox (DOS) database of promotion results and created promotion result presentations for our sales people to give to clients.

9/86 – 4/88 McCormack & Dodge, Inc., San Mateo, CA
Financial Software Firm

I was a Technical Support Analyst serving clients who purchased the IBM OS/MVS based software.  I was in charge of the G/L, AP and PO products for the San Francisco sales office.  I installed the application on client sites, taught formal classes on the installation and support of the product and provided our sales people with technical support in sales presentations.

8/81 – 9/86 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA
Semi-Conductor Manufacturer

As a Senior Programmer/Analyst I installed and supported the AP, GL, FA financial packages running on an IBM OS/MVS mainframe.  I wrote COBOL programs in both batch and CICS online mode accessing VSAM and IMS files.   These programs were used to support the Financial applications and also on Order Entry and Shipping applications.

I was Project Leader on the selection and installation of new AP package and had two programmers reporting to me.  I followed a very structured methodology to define the project scope, its required manpower and time schedule.
